Terms of Service

1. Service Description

Mettle ("the Service") is a trading journal, analytics, and performance coaching platform. It provides tools for trade logging, behavioral analysis, skill development, and market intelligence.

Mettle does NOT provide investment advice, trading signals, financial planning services, or recommendations to buy or sell any securities. All analytics and AI-generated insights are for informational and educational purposes only.

2. User Responsibilities

By using Mettle, you acknowledge that:

  • You are solely responsible for your own trading decisions
  • Trading involves substantial risk of loss and is not suitable for all investors
  • Past performance data shown in this tool does not guarantee future results
  • Data accuracy depends on your inputs and brokerage API accuracy
  • You will not use the Service for any illegal activity or market manipulation
  • You will not share your account credentials with third parties

3. Subscriptions & Billing

Mettle offers three paid subscription tiers (Journal, Pro, and Workbench) billed monthly or annually through Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize recurring charges at the selected interval.

  • Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled before the end of the billing period
  • You may cancel at any time through your account settings or the Stripe customer portal
  • Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period
  • Refunds are available within 14 days of initial purchase
  • We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days notice to existing subscribers
  • Existing subscribers will be grandfathered at their current rate for at least 12 months after a price change

Free trial: New users may receive a 14-day free trial on the Pro tier. A valid payment method is required at signup but is not charged during the trial. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, you will be charged the Pro monthly rate and the subscription will begin. You may cancel at any time during the trial through your account settings.

Payment failures: If a scheduled payment fails, we will retry in accordance with Stripe's default retry schedule. Your account will remain fully active during the retry window. Only after all retries have failed and the subscription is marked cancelled by Stripe will we downgrade your tier and revoke any vault-licensed indicators (see Section 5a).

4. Data Ownership

You retain full ownership of your trading data. Mettle has a license to process your data solely to provide the Service. Upon account deletion, your data will be permanently removed within 30 days.

5. AI-Generated Content

Mettle uses AI (including Anthropic's Claude models) to generate coaching insights, performance reports, Pine Script indicators, and analysis. AI-generated content is based on pattern analysis of your historical trading data and general trading psychology principles. It is NOT investment advice and should not be construed as such. Always conduct your own analysis before making trading decisions.

5a. Mettle-Generated Indicators

Indicators generated by Mettle, whether through the Workbench Indicator Builder or delivered as invite-only TradingView scripts, are licensed to you under the separate Mettle Indicator Licence. Key points:

  • The licence is valid only while your Eligible Subscription is active.
  • Redistribution, resale, sharing, or publication of the Pine source is prohibited. Every delivered indicator carries a watermark identifying you as the licensee.
  • On cancellation, non-renewal, or Terms breach, we revoke TradingView invite access and the licence terminates.
  • Indicators you import into Mettle (pasted Pine you already own) are your property. Mettle stores a watermarked copy for provenance only and claims no rights over your imported source.

6. Limitation of Liability

Mettle is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for:

  • Trading losses incurred while using or based on information from the Service
  • Data inaccuracies from brokerage API feeds or CSV imports
  • Decisions made based on analytics, AI insights, or any other data shown in the Service
  • Service interruptions, data loss, or security breaches beyond our reasonable control

In no event shall Mettle's total liability exceed the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months preceding the claim.

7. Acceptable Use

You may not use Mettle to:

  • Engage in market manipulation or illegal trading activity
  • Share account credentials or allow unauthorized access
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code
  • Use automated systems to scrape data from the Service
  • Resell access to the Service without authorization

8. Third-Party Services

Mettle integrates with third-party services including Stripe (payments), SnapTrade (brokerage connections), Finnhub (market data), and Anthropic (AI). Your use of these integrations is subject to their respective terms of service.

9. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email at least 30 days before taking effect. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
